Pastoral Care

Ascension has an active pastoral care team which facilitates and provides:

• Chaplaincy at the Peter James Rehabilitation Centre and local nursing homes.
• Pastoral care, practical and prayer support  for parishioners and others in need.
• “Not Home Alone” friendship lunch group.
• Support groups for widows and widowers.
• Celebration for life events – eg,  baptisms.
• Welcome for new members.
• Friday “Book Exchange” – drop in for a cuppa and chat, borrow books from our  library, do the “Friday quiz” with the vicar.

Community involvement

Ascension is a community oriented parish, actively supporting:

• Local  welfare agencies, especially  the UnitingCare East Burwood Centre,
• Burwood East primary school, through Christian Religious Education and in the Kid’s Hope Program, a  partnership with World Vision, providing mentors for children needing extra support, identified by the school.
